The new hand carved screen at Felmingham in Norfolk was commissioned for the Millennium, to provide a ringing gallery and a room below for a crèche and Sunday school classes.
Working closely with the Architect and the PCC, designs were submitted to reflect the use of the new areas, bearing in mind the rural position of the church, panels were carved representing the seasons and farming life. Small panels at child height were carved with images of nursery rhymes, and small animals. I even incorporated a mouse running along the bottom moulding and a snail slithering up the side!
The screen was oiled to maintain the light oak colour, and details painted and water gilt polished to a high shine to look like little jewels.
