This was a project that took several years to come to fruition, from an initial drawing faxed through out of the blue. To meetings with the cabinet makers and Joiners, site inspection and several discussions with the client about what was required. The Pirate and the mermaid were made up from solid English oak and after initial roughing out with a small chainsaw were hand carved (using my largest chisels!) as can be seen from the photo’s the mermaid was slightly smaller than life size and the ‘Pirate’ slightly larger. The project caused much interest and amusement from my other customers and enquiries as to who was the model for the mermaid.
This is the finished bed, in situ, With the pirate themed Stained glass windows.
I was asked to design and make a set of chairs and dining table inspired by the ‘Lord of the Rings’
Made in Sycamore, with a natural finish, each cabriole leg had a different character from the books carved on the knee. This type of individual carving can only be done by hand, and resulted in a unique bespoke set of furniture.
